By SUVtv, 05/26/20, 1:30PM EDT

Panel discussion will examine mental health & the stigma that stands in the way for many

While May is Mental Health Awareness Month - mental health should be a part of the everyday routine and conversation for all - including the student-athletes and communities showcased on SUVtv throughout the year. Unfortunately, there is a stigma that often stands in the way of mental health being the priority it should be. On Friday, May 29 at 1pm EST, Beyond The Bench will host a panel discussion on SUVtv in order to discuss mental health, the stigma that stands in the way, and ways the youth/high school sports ecosystem can help encourage & facilitate mental health and wellness for all.

As a not-for-profit organization committed to addressing the underserved needs of student-athletes, Beyond The Bench, provides programming, events, and resources for sports communities. “Whether it’s incorrectly equating mental challenges with weakness or other embedded behaviors, there is a need for real conversations and resources that help communities see the value in approaching mental maintenance the same way we approach physical fitness and conditioning,” says Mario Mays, Founder of Beyond The Bench. “We’ve organized a unique collection of perspectives to discuss mental health, the aforementioned stigma, and some of the resources available.”
